AmeriCorps*VISTA has been helping bring communities and individuals out of poverty for 35 years, when it was established as Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA). Today, nearly 6,000 AmeriCorps*VISTA members serve in hundreds of nonprofit organizations and public agencies throughout the country - working to fight illiteracy, improve health services, create businesses, increase housing opportunities, or bridge the digital divide. AmeriCorps*VISTA places individuals in disadvantaged communities for a full-time, full-year commitment to build the capacity of small community-based organizations.
AmeriCorps*VISTA members are assigned for one year, full-time, to a nonprofit organization - a shelter for abused or battered women, a health clinic for low-income families, or a disadvantaged school. Or may be assigned to an organization that is helping people move from welfare to work or that is introducing technology to an underserved neighborhood.AmeriCorps*VISTA members train volunteers, raise funds and write grants, gather corporate sponsorship and donations, plan community meetings, and handle public relations - whatever it takes to make their project come together.
AmeriCorps*VISTA members leave behind lasting solutions to some of our country's toughest problems. For more information on AmeriCorps*VISTA or becoming a sponsor, contact:
