Barbara Wolken

Barbara Wolken attended Jefferson City Public schools and took special education classes at Lincoln University, Nichols Career Center and AFL-CIO Labor Education classes in Silver Springs, MD. Also attended annual Community Services Classes presented by the National AFL-CIO.

She worked for the Missouri AFL-CIO for twenty-two years, starting out as their first Women's Activities Director, State COPE Director and as State Community Services Coordinator. She taught labor education in lower grades through college and adult labor education classes for Columbia, Webster College in Jefferson City and Ft. Leonard Wood. She also taught labor education classes for Missouri University's summer teacher classes.
Ms. Wolken coordinated and hosted numerous state Community Services Conferences, Labor and Religion Conferences, and has hosted regional meetings and dinners for Community Services workers. She served on Jefferson City Area United Way board, is a past President of Hospice of Jefferson City and Mid Missouri and is presently a member of it's board. She also worked with the Jefferson City Postal Workers and Letter Carriers Annual Food Drives, and has participated in fundraisers for many of the United Way agencies and helping people programs.
She has also served with the Missouri Disaster Preparedness Program, and many other civic and church activities. Ms. Wolken has also been a Court Reporter for the Missouri State Liquor Control for a number of years, was Supervisor of Safety Responsibility for the Missouri Department of Revenue, and was a member of the National Motor Vehicle Administrators Organization.
Ms. Wolken's motto is "giving until it feels good is the best way of life."
